Recruiting the Next Elite Athlete.

Walter Athletic Center at Northwestern University

To support two new new world-class athletic facilities, Northwestern wanted to use digital technology to transform their new buildings into recruiting tools for prospective athletes, coaches, families, and special event VIPs.  Working with our content partners Teamworks media, we designed and developed a multi-modal system across 2 buildings to to tell the more than 100-year story of Northwestern Athletics, from its legendary players like Otto Graham and Joe Girardi, to its classic wins at the Rose Bowl.

Overview

  • 4x Interactives across 2 buildings covering 19 sports
  • Three-story programmable media wall

As visitors enter the new Walter Athletic Center lobby, they are greeted by the Tower.  Whether beautiful shots of athletes in motion, custom individual and brand messaging, or the latest game highlights, updatable templates for this custom 3-story media wall provide a massive creative canvas.  On either side of the Tower, 14-foot touch screens tell the stories of all 19 sports on one side and the football team on the other. With stories dating all the way back to the 1800s, the curious visitor can look up any player or team in the history of the football program, or the latest news on Track and Field.

For visitors to the football program, the second floor Hall of Honor provides for an even deeper dive.  A blend of physical displays and 8’ multimedia touch walls serve to engage visitors along three key program areas:  Preparation for Life, All-American Honors, and NFL Success.

Finally, the a short distance away, at the Welsh Ryan Basketball arena, attendees are greeted by an interactive Hall of Fame for the entire sports program including more than 100 multimedia stories devoted to each of the Wildcat hall of famers, and supporting material about their sport of choice.

By integrating all three locations into a single design language and content manager, the new system serves as a comprehensive storytelling tool for the university as it looks to a future of athletic excellence.
